7. Taxes and fees

Configure your tax lines, and decide whether you absorb the platform and card fees or pass them to customers

Step 7: Taxes and fees

Two jobs on one screen: what tax you charge, and who pays the fees.

Taxes

Location Settings > Money > Taxes. You can configure up to five tax rates per location.

Each rate takes:

FieldWhat it is
Tax nameWhat prints on the customer's invoice. GST, VAT, Sales Tax
Tax rateThe percentage
GL codeThe accounting code, so your accountant can tell them apart
Apply to bookingsWhether it applies to rental bookings
Apply to slipsWhether it applies to marina slip charges

Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland and most of the EU charge one national rate. Configure one line: GST at 10%, GST at 15%, VAT at 20%.

Prices in these markets are normally advertised inclusive of tax, so turn on inclusive pricing and show one all-in number.

Fees

Location Settings > Money > Fees & Payments. Two independent toggles: Charge platform fee to customers and Charge card processing fee to customers.

What most operators settle on

Passing both fees is visible at checkout and is the most common cause of abandoned bookings, because guests compare the total against competitors rather than your headline rate. The usual answer is to absorb card processing, pass some or none of the platform fee, and build the rest into your rates. Full detail on the pricing page.

Watch out for

  • "Itemize taxes and fees at checkout" is display only. With it off, everything collapses into one "Taxes, Fees & Protections" line. The total is identical.
  • Card surcharging never applies to POS sales, only online payments and fuel charges.
Australia: surcharging is prohibited from 1 October 2026

Australian locations see a warning against the card fee toggle. The setting is not blocked in software, because the timing of your own compliance is your decision. Plan to absorb card processing and price it into your rates.

You are done when

Your tax lines match how you file, and both fee toggles are set deliberately rather than left at their default.
