The Compliance & Regulatory Recovery Fee (C&RRF) applies to locations in Canada. It recovers the GST/HST on your RentalTide platform fee, shown as its own line so you can see it and claim it back.
RentalTide Inc. (Canada) is registered for GST/HST, so platform fees on Canadian locations carry GST/HST. Your platform fee and the C&RRF together include GST/HST equal to the C&RRF, and if your business is registered for GST/HST you can generally claim that back as an input tax credit.
How it is calculated
C&RRF = your platform fee × your province's GST/HST rate
The province comes from the location's address, so each location uses its own rate.
| Province or territory | Rate | C&RRF on a 4.9% platform fee |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | 13% HST | 0.637% |
| Nova Scotia | 14% HST | 0.686% |
| New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island | 15% HST | 0.735% |
| Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut | 5% GST | 0.245% |
Example. An Ontario booking carries a platform fee of $24.50 and a C&RRF of $3.19 (13% of $24.50). The two together, $27.69, include GST/HST. The HST inside $27.69 is $3.19, which RentalTide remits to the Canada Revenue Agency, and RentalTide keeps the $24.50.
Nothing further is added on top: the $27.69 already includes GST/HST.
RentalTide charges GST only in Quebec. It is not registered for QST, so no QST is added.
Who pays it
The C&RRF follows your platform fee setting in Location Settings > Money > Fees & Payments:
- Platform fee passed to customers: the C&RRF is added at checkout as its own line, "Compliance & Regulatory Recovery Fee". It does not come out of your rental price.
- Platform fee absorbed: the C&RRF is deducted together with the platform fee, the same way the platform fee is. Your customer does not see it.
Claiming it back
If your business is registered for GST/HST, the GST/HST included in your platform fees is generally claimable as an input tax credit (ITC) on your own GST/HST return. You need two things:
- our GST/HST number: RentalTide Inc. (Canada), 783525165 RT0001
- the GST/HST included in your platform fees for the period
Your monthly RentalTide bill under Settings > Subscription will show both. Until it does, contact support and we will send you a statement.
If your business is not registered for GST/HST (for example, a small supplier under the $30,000 threshold), you cannot claim ITCs, so the C&RRF is a cost like the platform fee itself.
This page is general information, not tax advice. Your accountant can confirm how input tax credits apply to your business.
What it replaced
Some accounts used to carry a flat 0.73% fee under the same name. That flat fee is retired. Locations outside Canada pay no C&RRF.
The C&RRF differs between my locations. Each location uses the rate of the province it is in.
The C&RRF uses the wrong province. Check the location's address, then contact support so we can correct it.
I do not see a C&RRF line at checkout. Either the location is outside Canada, or you absorb the platform fee, in which case the C&RRF is included in the fee we deduct.
